It is these values that are apparent in his accomplishments, including: his dynamic and extensive academic and professional experience, volunteer service in youth and community development, and the countless relationships he has built locally, nationally and abroad.
Omar’s dynamic life journey includes living in different continents such as Asia, the Middle East, Europe and North America. He has work experience in diverse organizations and with multiple sectors (corporate, government & non-for-profit), where he has accumulated a wealth of knowledge and experience. These opportunities have helped him work with and learn from some of the most distinguished academic, athletic, and professional leaders from around the world.
Omar has over 15 years of experience working with thousands of people in a variety of capacities. He has held positions with the NBA, Toronto Raptors, University of Waterloo, Boehringer Ingelheim Inc. and many other recognizable academic, corporate and non-profit organizations nation wide. He serves as a consultant, educator, guest speaker, volunteer and coach at various schools, teams, camps, conferences and organizations across North America. Most recently he coached the McLaughlin Trojans Highschool basketball team to a 2010 L.O.S.S.A Championship.
Omar enthusiastically practices life long learning; he holds a Master’s Degree from Queen’s University; an Honours BA degree from the University of Waterloo; and a post-graduate diploma from Durham College. His research interests include: education, leadership, athletics, health, youth & community development & international development. During his academic tenure he has received several awards and scholarships for his balanced and integrated approach to academics, athletics and community citizenship.
Omar is an engaging motivational speaker. He is often invited by teams, schools, organizations, and communities to speak and consult on a wide range of topics. Omar is currently a consultant, CEO of Engage: youth and community development, professor at Durham College and founder/director of 360ydc Basketball & Leadership programs. He and his family reside in Ontario, Canada.
